I'm TOTALLY THRILLED and breathing a huge sigh of relief, now that the biggest rat of all, Mitch McConnell, is leaving the sinking ship of Trump. Hell, I feel like I haven't been breathing AT ALL since election night 2016, when Trump was declared the winner of the Electoral College majority.
Oh wait a minute. Let me recall for a moment that one precious day of breathing and celebration, the Saturday after the election last year when the mainstream press called the election for Biden. How lovely that was, all of us dancing in the street -- all over the world.
And then I went back to holding my breath again as the drumbeat of "Stop the Steal!" grew louder and louder.
But now, at least this morning, I breathing freely for a few hours because the Enabler-in-Chief, Senate MINORITY leader Mitch McConnell, decided Trump has gone too far. Mitch is open to impeachment.
There's nothing like needing to hide from violent seditionists to give you a bit of clarity about your life's work.
And Rep. Liz Cheney, #3 Republican in the House now actually calls for impeachment (McConnell has just indicated he's "open" to it.) Cheney said: "There has never been a greater betrayal by a president of the United States." Maybe not, Liz, but remember that whole scandal over Trump blackmailing the Ukraine President to get dirt on Biden's son? That came preeeeeetty close, don't you agree, Liz? Remember that, Liz? I don't recall you getting upset about THAT.
And how about Trump's very recent ham-handed phone call to the Secretary of State of Georgia? The President tried -- and failed -- to bully Rafenspurger into conjuring up 11,780 Trumpian votes from thin air. You seemed to be pretty comfortable with THAT too, right Liz?
Bloggelinis, let us never forget that the Senate had an opportunity in January 2020 to get rid of Trump by impeaching him. And the ONLY Republican who came through that ordeal with flying colors was Mitt Romney. May he be blessed with really good security guards for the rest of his life.
And now, here we are, with the most powerful Republican in Congress, Mitch McConnell, backing away from the precipice of the abortive coup, like a lemming who suddenly came to his senses. Instead, he turns from lemming into Rat and runs like hell. But he is STILL accountable for the untold millions that he urged to plunge off the cliff before him, by his unwavering loyalty to Trump.
We as a nation are not very good at holding people accountable. Which is how we got to this point.
Just for starters: Confederate President Jefferson Davis, and Gen. Robert E. Lee were traitors under the U.S. Constitution's definition of treason. Yet neither man -- nor any other Confederate -- was ever tried for the crime.
Strange, isn't it?
As I said before, all the Congresspeople who questioned the fair election of the Democratic candidate are guilty of attempting to overthrow our democracy and should be held accountable by being expelled from office. The only difference from the earlier blog where I talked about this is that the list of traitors is LONGER. If I remember correctly, it was 126 then and now it stands at 147.
We still have to figure out how to deal with the millions who have slid into a form of insanity, as a result of the steady diet of Trump's lies and delusions. What to do? What to do? How about.... an Apology Tour? Yes! How about the chastened Republicans, like McConnell and Cheney, traveling around the country, talking to the Trumpers about the terrible mistake they made --- over and over again?
And let's NOT go back to "normal" --subverting democracy the quiet, old-fashioned way with Big Money and voter suppression.
HEY!
HOW ABOUT HOLDING
THE CONSTITUTION ACCOUNTABLE?
Let's get rid of that giant remnant of slavery,
the Electoral College!
Bloggelinis, we've got a lot of work to do! And then there's global warming... Phew... Well, it's good to be needed, right?
